During my working life, I have been attracted to areas of work where I have felt I had a contribution to make in the lives of people experiencing difficulties, often not of their own making. In an effort to understand the origins of their difficulties, I have followed an academic path in the social sciences and law.

Through my work and study I have come to understand that systems, outside the influence of individuals and their communities, often determine the conditions of people's lives. Inequity (and inequality) at institutional levels is a reality I have come to know and recognise throughout my working life. Consequently I am keenly interested in processes that are set up to provide opportunity for citizens to seek answers to situations where they feel wronged or believe mistakes have been made which have impacted adversely on their lives.

My legal thesis included an examination of dispute resolution processes: it explored and identified principles that should be involved in DR processes, particularly the principles of fairness and independence. The research process provided the opportunity to concentrate on both the theory of alternative dispute resolution and its application in real contexts.

I have the ability to quickly become familiar with and work within legal frameworks.

I am competent at managing a diverse private practice, including working with a case load and maintaining accurate records and report writing. I have been involved in complaints processes in the employment field; undertaken interviews and provided reports and recommendations to management. This can be covered by referees.

I value the skills and knowledge of others’ and consistently seek advice and feedback from peers.
